Taking Care Of Your Vision: What You Need To Know

Blog

Vision care is necessary for keeping up with your eye health and preventing worsening vision as you age. The older you get, the more your vision will deteriorate and diminish. Preventing vision loss is important, and it is possible if you take better care of your eyes and watch some of your habits that may be causing your vision loss. Read on for some helpful tips on how to care for your vision.

Look Away From Screens

It's nearly impossible to skip screen time altogether, what with smartphones that you use throughout the day, as well as computers, tablets, and other devices. It can be very difficult to stay away from them, but with this use comes some responsibility for your eyes and your vision. You need to take several breaks throughout the day to help give your eyes a break and to prevent any further vision loss. Eye strain can be an issue with the heavy use of screens. This is because you are always staring at a device screen and are not looking away enough. You aren't blinking as you stare at these screens and your eyes begin to dry out. Looking away and changing your focus to something else will help prevent this from happening to you.

Use Your Corrective Lenses When Needed

Don't strain your eyes to see properly when you have eyeglasses that help you to see properly sitting nearby. Put your glasses on or wear your contact lenses when necessary to help you see better. If your vision has changed, be sure you update your prescription lenses to enable you to see properly. Staining to see means your lenses are not the correct prescription and it needs updating. Don't wear old lenses or contacts, as they will cause further vision deterioration.

Wash Away Eye Makeup At Night

If you wear eye makeup, be sure you wash it off at night before you go to sleep. Sleeping in your eye makeup can lead to eye infections and other eye concerns, as the bacteria can spread to your eyes. You should remove the eye makeup with a makeup remover to wash it all away.

If you aren't doing what you can to take care of your vision, you could be setting your own self up for vision loss. Talk to your optometrist about other eye and vision care tips to prevent vision loss or other eye health concerns.

Although it can be easy to write off vision problems as a simple frustration, taking the time to visit your eye doctor might help you to take care of important aspects of your day to day life. In addition to making your vision more comfortable with the right pair of frames or the right contact lenses, going to the eye doctor might also help you to keep up with your overall eye care.
